Stephen Figueroa, 29, of Shelton, was arrested after a woman came to police headquarters around 9 a.m., Saturday, June 29, and reported she had been involved in a domestic incident with Figueroa, said Shelton Police Det. Christopher Nugent.

The woman told officers that she went over to Figueroa’s apartment in Shelton at around 4 a.m. to retrieve some personal property, Nugent said.

The two argued when Figueroa would not return the property or allow her to leave the apartment, police said.

During the fight, a 2-month-old baby was present, Nugent said.

Residents of the apartment building contacted the police to report a disturbance at the apartment, however responding officers were unable to make contact with anyone at the address, Nugent said.

After the victim filed the complaint, officers made contact with Figueroa, who was placed under arrest and charged with disorderly conduct, assault, threatening, unlawful restraint, and risk of injury to a minor.

Figueroa posted a $150,000 bond and appeared in Derby Superior court on Monday, July 1. During proceedings, the judge issued a protective order for the officer to have no contact with his girlfriend.

Bridgeport Police Chief Perez put Figueroa on administrative leave after learning of the alleged domestic violence incident in Shelton, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police.

Perez said that he will assign a full and thorough internal investigation by Bridgeport's Office of Internal Affairs, Jones added.

Figueroa was also arrested last year in an incident involving a different woman. The charges were later dropped after completing a family violence program.

He was also arrested in 2017, for criminal mischief and disorderly conduct after allegedly breaking the window of a former girlfriend's car during a fight with the woman.

Those charges were also dropped after the woman refused to cooperate.
